- The words “domestic violence” have a stigma that “it’s a woman’s problem” and clearly it is not. Secondly, it assumes that all victims are female and this is not true either. So we prefer to say “home violence”. It is more inclusive. It encompasses whoever makes up your home environment. You can be living with your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, your ex, mother, father, stepparent, stepchildren, pets, etc. and an episode of violence can occur in any one of these combinations. Therefore, we prefer to say “home violence”.
- It is shorter to say “home” than it is to say “domestic”
- It is an oxymoron. The words “home” and “violence” should not be in the same sentence which is exactly our point. They shouldn’t.
- Your place of residence should feel like home and not hell; it should be your sanctuary and not a war zone.
